Bloomsburg Falls in Field Hockey to East Stroudsburg

BLOOMSBURG —East Stroudsburg University scored twice in the opening half of play and went on to post a 3-1 win over Bloomsburg University in field hockey action Wednesday. The loss denied Bloomsburg head coach Jan Hutchinson her 1,500th career coaching win combined between field hockey and softball.

The Warriors took the lead in the game just 6:19 into play when Kristen Trois scored off a Joelle Lussi assist. Bloomsburg quickly responded and tied the score at 1-1 when Samantha Kropa (Tunkhannock/Lackawanna Trail), the Huskies' freshman sensation, scored her 11th goal of the season at the 7:34 mark off a Kristi Ney (Dauphin/C.D. East) assist.

The two teams went back and forth with the Huskies just missing on several good scoring chances before the Warriors took the lead for good on a Sarah Cordora goal from Kara Parrington at the 29:50 mark.

In the second half, the Huskies came out fired up and were awarded a penalty in the opening minutes of play. However, East Stroudsburg goalie Crystal Condron stopped Venessa Witman's (Oley/Oley Valley) shot attempt keeping the game at 2-1.

The Warriors extended the lead to 3-1 when Katie Ord scored unassisted at the 47 minute mark. Bloomsburg, though, would continue to battle.

The Huskies put together a string of five penalty corners in about a two-minute with 10 to play, but each time came up empty. The Huskies also had one shot hit the post and several just miss wide.

With the loss the Huskies fall to 14-2, 9-2 in the PSAC, while East Stroudsburg goes to 7-7, 4-6 in the PSAC. The Huskies are back in action hosting top-ranked Shippensburg on Saturday at 1 p.m.
